A society proud to be on benefits
Monday 31st August

I was in the pub having a discussion with Brian about the way people are on benefits these days.
He was saying how under the conservative government there were areas in Manchester that were like ghost towns. No-one went out of the house f they were on benefits. There was a shame to claiming them.

Nowadays the people on benefits are often down the local pub having a good time chatting away.

It seems the Labour government has taken away the stigma and to an extent made it trendy to claim.

The upside of this is, that people on benefits who are in thepub all afternoon are keeping some of the traditional pubs alive. If it wasn't for a benefits society, there wouldn't be any pool tables left, every last pub would have been turned into a conservatives fancy wine bar.

Other discussions we had were:
How there's an underclass in society and a middle class. The difference is, the underclass want people to be scared of them - that's their main goal in life. The middle class want people to be proud of them.

How living in bad neighbourhoods, once you're in one it's hard to leave. The stress and neighbourly disputes take up all your time and cause stress. How having money helps you stay above it.
